The pressure is seriously mounting on Manchester United manager Michael Carrick following their disappointing 3-0 defeat vs Bournemouth.

The pressure is seriously mounting on Manchester United manager Michael Carrick following their disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

The result comes just a few days after they were battered in the Champions League away to Como, and it's certainly not looking good for Carrick in terms of his future.

A number of managers are being linked with a move to Old Trafford , but it still remains to be seen whether Carrick will be relieved of his duties.

The United manager made the bold decision to drop Bruno Fernandes from the starting XI and refused to bring him on despite the Red Devils needing a goal.

It was a huge statement from Carrick, and it'll be interesting to see whether the likes of Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada agree with the decision he made.

There's no doubt things have to change at United, but that certainly doesn't mean that Carrick is solely to blame.

The United boss has been left with a poor squad with so many holes in it, despite them spending so much money in recent transfer windows .

One manager being linked with a move to Old Trafford is Aston Villa's Unai Emery .

GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Emery was in United's thinking in the summer before Carrick was given the permanent job.

The Athletic have confirmed that Emery is highly regarded at Manchester United , but it's not going to be easy to convince him to leave the club.

GIVEMESPORT understands that he would need a lot of convincing to leave Villa due to him being given significant control in the market.

It also wouldn't be a cheap deal for United to complete either, even if Emery did want to make the move to Old Trafford.

Reports have claimed that Villa would demand around £20 million in compensation to allow Emery to leave the club, and the Spanish manager is reportedly seen as a 'dream' candidate to replace Carrick .

Speaking about his future after the defeat against Bournemouth this weekend, Carrick admitted that it's a tough situation .

> "It's a tough situation. There's no hiding from it. What it looks like, what's next, I really don't know. But I'll always do what's BEST for this football club.

> "I've said it all along, and I don't change that now. I love what I do. I love the position I'm in. I feel the responsibility. But we'll have to wait and see..."

Manchester United suffered a humiliating defeat at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

GIVEMESPORT sources have also confirmed that former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is also appreciated by the United hierarchy.

If it's a choice between Howe and Emery, then there truly is only one answer.

Emery is a manager who has massively overachieved on multiple occasions with various different sides during his career.

A similar could be said for Howe, but Emery's trophy record eclipses his comfortably.

Emery has completely transformed Villa over the last few years and also shown he's capable of managing sides in Europe too.

The Villa boss is known for winning trophies in European competitions, something that United could only dream of of late.

Howe hasn't had the experience of managing a huge club, whereas Emery has managed Arsenal as well as various European sides.

The unfortunate thing for United is that Howe would be a lot more attainable right now. Getting Emery out of Villa is going to be an almost impossible task, especially given the difficult situation that the Red Devils are in.
