Although Halloween is still exactly a week away, some truly horrifying scenes unfolded in Cologne during the first half of the match against Schalke 04.

What happened? A very slight push from Said El Mala triggered a genuine butterfly effect. After being pushed, Soufiane El-Faouzi collided in mid-air with teammate Robin Gosens near the halfway line, sending both players to the ground.

Both Schalke players were bleeding heavily afterwards. Their faces and shirts turned dark red, and a lengthy break for treatment followed.

While El-Faouzi was able to walk off the pitch on his own in his bloodstained shirt, Gosens needed support from the medical staff. Schalke were forced into two substitutions: Vitalie Becker and Janik Bachmann replaced the two stars, with the match going into half-time at 0-0 after a lengthy period of stoppage time.

Unsurprisingly, the internet is awash with get-well wishes, while Said El Mala is also coming in for plenty of criticism:
