The mood at HSV had been upbeat heading into Saturday afternoon, despite a few minor injury concerns, following three wins in their last three Bundesliga matches.

But before there had even been any notable chances, let alone goals, in the away clash with SC Paderborn, HSV fans had to brace themselves for a blow.

With the hugely influential Nicolai Remberg already facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, HSV lost another key player after just twelve minutes: Fabio Vieira was sitting on the ground, clutching his left hamstring. He had injured himself moments earlier while attempting a shot, with no contact from another player.

He had to come off, with Merlin Polzin bringing on Otto Stange in his place.

After the shock of Remberg's injury, HSV supporters can now only hope that Vieira will miss just this match rather than become the next key player facing a lengthy layoff.
