Out-of-sorts Juventus head to Stadio Via del Mare desperately vying for a much-needed Serie A win against perennial strugglers Lecce. Anything other than three points in Puglia would significantly derail Luciano Spalletti’s chances of staying in the dugout beyond November’s international break.
Confidence should be running high for Lecce after a thumping 3-0 victory at Udinese last weekend, which snapped their two-game losing league streak. More importantly, that win steered Eusebio Di Francesco’s side five points clear of the bottom three ahead of this round, relieving some pressure on the former Sassuolo and Roma boss.
Lecce could now win back-to-back Serie A matches for the first time since the final two rounds of last season, a feat they managed just twice in the entire 2025/26 campaign. However, standing on the other side is a team eager to return to winning ways after a hugely disappointing week, highlighted by a dreadful 3-0 home defeat to Lazio.
Juventus failed to properly respond to that gut-wrenching result, as Rennes held them to a 2-2 draw in midweek Europa League action, heightening the pressure on Spalletti, whose arrival last October has not sparked a renaissance in Turin. With four points separating his side from fourth-placed Milan pre-round, Spalletti can ill-afford another slip-up here.
Match Preview
Lecce
Despite their electrifying performance at the Bluenergy Stadium last weekend, Lecce can’t rest on their laurels, knowing it was only their second victory in six Serie A matches (L4). Moreover, Lecce must punch above their weight here if they are to build on that triumph, a trait that has rarely been associated with Di Francesco’s side in recent years.
For context, the hosts have picked up just one point from their last nine league clashes against teams starting the day in the top half. As if that’s not troubling enough, they have failed to get on the scoresheet in the last six such fixtures, offering very little hope that they could capitalize on Juventus’ rough patch. And it gets worse.
In addition to losing four of their last seven outings at the Via del Mare (W2, D1), Lecce have beaten Juventus just once across their last 20 Serie A meetings (D5, L14). In fact, only Inter (13) have inflicted more home defeats on the Giallorossi than their upcoming rivals (12) in their top-flight history.
Juventus
History might be on Juventus’ side here, but Spalletti would be naive to take anything for granted, as things could spiral out of control sooner rather than later. Anything other than a win here would leave Juventus with fewer than 14 points after the opening eight rounds in consecutive seasons for the first time since the late 1970s.
That doesn’t even begin to illustrate the depth of the crisis in Turin. Juventus have emerged victorious from just one of their last five Serie A matches (D2, L2) and are winless away from home (D1, L1) since beating newly promoted Frosinone on matchday one. That said, they’ve only lost once on their last ten road trips (W5, D4), offering Spalletti some sort of comfort ahead of this must-win fixture.
Further confidence could come from the fact that Juventus’ last away league defeat to Lecce came in 2011. The record-time Italian champions have since gone unbeaten on six successive Serie A visits to the Via del Mare (W4, D2) despite scoring precisely one goal on five occasions in that stretch.
Team News
Lassana Coulibaly and Santiago Pierotti suffered injuries last week and will not be at Di Francesco’s disposal for this fixture. They’ll join Ivan Ilic and Medon Berisha on the sidelines, leaving the Lecce manager with limited options in the middle of the park. There’s a much bigger problem for Di Franceso, whose three center-forwards, William Geubbels, Nikola Stulic, and Paco Esteban, have yet to score a goal this season.
Juventus’ ever-growing injury list has two more names on it, as Zeki Celik and Nico Gonzalez had to come off early against Rennes on Thursday. Francisco Conceicao, Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Jeff Ekhator, Kamil Grabara, and Manuel Locatelli are also unavailable, leaving Spalletti with several hard choices to make in what could prove a ‘make or break’ match for the veteran coach.
Lecce vs Juventus Potential Starting Lineups
Lecce (4-3-3): Falcone; Veiga, Gabriel, Gaspar, Gallo; Kaba, Ngom, Maleh; N’Dri, Geubbels, Monteiro.
Juventus (3-4-1-2): Vicario; Kalulu, Bremer, Lucumi; McKennie, Luiz, Sarr, Cambiaso; Alajbegovic; Kolo Muani, Woltemade.
Lecce vs Juventus Prediction
It’s hard to expect this injury-hit Juventus side to stroll to three points in Puglia, but the visitors should have enough quality to get the job done. Lecce’s misfiring frontline could be their undoing against a superior opponent.
