Statement made as Man Utd loanee Andre Onana was taken to hospital after a multi-car crash in Turkey.
An update has emerged on the immediate health of Trabzonspor star Andre Onana. The goalkeeper, on loan from Manchester United, was taken to hospital after being involved in a serious road accident on Thursday night.
Onana spent last season out on loan with the Turkish club and has returned there for the 2026/27 season as well. He's played 12 games in total this term, keeping five clean sheets, while letting in 12 goals.
The 30-year-old endured a fairly torturous time at Old Trafford, failing to convince in England before essentially being replaced by Senne Lammens. Onana still has a contract with the Red Devils, however, and it's not due to expire until 2028.
As reported by the Daily Star, details have now emerged of the multi-car crash in which Onana was involved this week. The incident occurred just hours after the goalkeeper had helped Trabzonspor beat Scottish side Hearts in the Europa Conference League, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 home win.
Local reports suggest he was then involved in the crash while travelling home from the fixture. The accident is said to have taken place on the Yomra road, situated near the Black Sea resort of Trabzon, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Reports indicate that the crash was a chain-reaction event involving three different vehicles. According to local witnesses and media reports, another car reportedly collided with the rear of Onana’s vehicle at high speed. This initial impact forced the goalkeeper’s car into the vehicle ahead of him, sandwiching the player in a frightening high-speed pile-up that left substantial wreckage scattered across the road.
Onana was taken to hospital, and images have now emerged of his damaged car online.
As quoted by Goal, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has now given a positive update on Onana's health. Speaking to local media outlets, the club chief confirmed the accident had taken place and provided an initial update on the goalkeeper's condition, stating:
> “Andre Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening. There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
It's said that the Man Utd loanee was only taken to a local medical facility as a precautionary measure following the impact. Medical staff at the hospital then evaluated the player for potential internal injuries or concussion symptoms that are often associated with high-velocity road accidents. The club has not yet released a secondary medical report confirming when he might be cleared to return to training, but it's good to know he has seemingly avoided any major health issues.
