Ismaelo Ganiou (21), a regular starter for RC Lens this season (eight appearances in all competitions), is set for a period on the sidelines. His club have announced that the defender has undergone an operation after sustaining an injury during the win over ESTAC Troyes last weekend.
Ganiou injured his left knee towards the end of that 3-1 win. He underwent a minor operation on that injury on Friday morning, Lens have announced in a statement. His period of absence, the statement went on to add, is several weeks.
The injury had already missed the loss to Club Brugge (3-0) in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. That was despite reassuring tests on Monday. Ganiou returned to first-team training on Thursday, but after feeling discomfort in the knee, the decision was taken to undergo the operation. It leaves Les Sang et Or short of defensive options. Jean-Clair Todibo joined on loan from West Ham United over the summer but has so far struggled to settle.
