Lineker and Shearer: Alexander-Arnold to Liverpool Would be 'Really Interesting'
· GiveMeSport
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer react to rumours of Trent Alexander-Arnold's potential return to Liverpool.
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have both reacted to an interesting rumour that they've heard about Liverpool in recent days.
There's been a lot of talk surrounding Liverpool in the last few weeks, but most of it has been negative after some disappointing performances.
Andoni Iraola has struggled to get a consistent tune out of his players so far this season since his arrival.
The Reds have picked up some strong results across the last few games, winning three on the bounce since losing to Manchester City.
It's been an interesting period for Liverpool as they've been forced to replace some of their more experienced senior stars from the last few years.
Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate, and Mohamed Salah all departed in the summer, while the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold have also left the club recently.
Alexander-Arnold is one who left in perhaps controversial fashion, with Liverpool fans certainly unhappy that he left his boyhood club.
Despite that, there have been rumours circulating around a potential return to Anfield for the local lad, with Lineker and Shearer both discussing a potential move .
> "You mentioned [Ryan] Gravenberch went back to right-back. They've not quite replaced Trent, but there are a few rumours. He's not really getting much of a look in with Jose Mourinho at Madrid at present. There are a few rumours that the boy Alexander-Arnold might go back," said Lineker.
> "That would be interesting, really interesting, wouldn't it?" Shearer added.
Whether Alexander-Arnold would be interested in a move back to Anfield remains to be seen, especially after the reaction from supporters when he departed.
It would certainly be a move that would be controversial for both parties. It's something that everyone would have to take a lot of consideration over, as there are certainly some fans that wouldn't be best pleased if it did happen.
With football fans being incredibly fickle, there's no doubt all will be forgotten if Alexander-Arnold did return and produced a strong level of performances.
Liverpool attacker Florian Wirtz has struggled since his move to Anfield last summer.
There's no doubt the right-back position is a bit of a problem for Liverpool.
Jeremie Frimpong was brought in last summer to replace Alexander-Arnold, but he struggled to live up to expectations when it comes to his performances.
The Dutch international has also struggled with injuries, forcing Liverpool to dip into the transfer market in the summer.
Ronald Araujo was brought in from Barcelona, but he's a completely different profile to both Alexander-Arnold and Frimpong.
Araujo is more of a defensive profile, and there's no doubt Liverpool miss what Alexander-Arnold offers at right-back in terms of his creativity.
