Sunderland: Jules Ahoka The Answer to Regis Le Bris' Problems
· GiveMeSport
Discover how Jules Ahoka can boost Sunderland's midfield and resolve persistent issues.
The answers to some of Regis Le Bris' biggest problems at Sunderland were staring him right in the face against Lech Poznan.
It was a strong performance from Sunderland in terms of creating chances against Lech Poznan, but once again, they also conceded too many opportunities.
They opened the scoring after just two minutes, thanks to a goal from Timur Tuterov, but they failed to find another heading into the latter stages of the second half.
In the 70th minute, Lech Poznan equalised, punishing Sunderland for their missed chances.
It's been a difficult season for Sunderland so far, as they sit at the bottom of the Premier League table.
The same problems keep emerging, even with Le Bris changing the side in Europe, and it's something they need to address as soon as possible.
There is one player who simply isn't receiving enough game time at the moment, but his performance against Lech Poznan could be showing Le Bris that the answer is staring him right in the face.
The Sunderland boss must have been impressed by the performance of Jules Ahoka playing in midfield against Lech Poznan.
Ahoka also scored in their previous Conference League match and in their previous Europa League game, but he's still struggling for minutes in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old has played just 25 minutes in England's top flight so far this season, but he could be the answer to Le Bris' problems.
The young midfielder is a genuine athlete in midfield who loves carrying the ball forward and looks incredibly comfortable on the ball.
Although he's still young and might not be trusted to play every single week, there's no doubt he should have more minutes so far this season.
Playing alongside an ageing Granit Xhaka, Ahoka adds the energy that they need in the middle of the park.
Although scoring goals has been an issue for Sunderland this season, they are also conceding way too many chances.
Only Crystal Palace have conceded more expected goals than Sunderland this season, so shoring up their midfield could be the key to Le Bris' problems.
Ahoka would go some way to helping that. Although he might not be the definitive answer in terms of playing every week, he undoubtedly needs to be given more minutes in the Premier League.
Adding more energy and defensive solidity in the middle of the park would be a huge benefit for Sunderland, and Ahoka could be the answer that Le Bris is looking for.
