La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this week announced a fresh setback on the personnel front in the club’s first-team ranks.

This comes amid confirmation of midfield star Johnny Cardoso being primed for an incoming spell on the treatment table in Spain’s capital.

American international Cardoso for his part featured from the bench on Tuesday night, as Atlético battled their way to a share of the spoils in a Champions League meeting with German outfit Stuttgart.

Along the way, however, the former Real Betis man picked up a muscular injury… As per a statement across Atlético’s website and social media platforms on Thursday:

> ‘Johnny is suffering from a low-grade muscle injury in his thigh. The rojiblanco will undergo both physiotherapy sessions and readaptation work in the gym, and the evolution of his injury will determine his return to competition.’

> Johnny sufre una lesión muscular de bajo grado en el muslo. El rojiblanco realizará tanto sesiones de fisioterapia como trabajo de readaptación en el gimnasio y la evolución de su lesión determinará su regreso a la competición.

Cardoso has in turn been ruled out of Atlético’s upcoming La Liga meeting with Deportivo La Coruña on Saturday.
