Como 4-1 Man Utd: ‘Disgraceful’ Bruno Fernandes’ Body Language Slammed
· GiveMeSport
Manchester United were thrashed by Como in the Champions League... and one player is receiving heavy criticism.
Manchester United's poor start to the 2026-27 season continued on Wednesday evening as the Red Devils slumped to a 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como.
Cesc Fabregas' side took the lead in the second minute, almost as early as Atletico's opener last week, through a Nico Paz stunner. If that wasn't bad enough, the Italians added three more goals in the second half, making it embarrassing for United .
Michael Carrick has come under pressure in the early stages of the season, just months after signing a permanent contract at Old Trafford. The 45-year-old hasn't been helped by several key players, one of which has been slated by angry fans.
Bruno Fernandes has been Mr Reliable for the English giants ever since he arrived in 2020, but he's receiving heavy criticism from United's online fan base.
The Portuguese midfielder was asked to play an unusual role as a false nine in Como, and it really didn't suit him. Fernandes looked lost at times, and equally frustrated.
One of Carrick's old teammates isn't a fan of a potential replacement.
Fans haven't been shy in voicing their concerns about the captain's display. One supporter wasn't thrilled by the defeated body language and suggested all is not well behind the scenes.
They said: > "This Bruno Fernandes body language… I’m expecting a HUGE interview or something coming soon from him man. He just does NOT look happy at all with anything or anyone."
> "Bruno’s body language early on has been disgusting, just throwing his arms around and walking,"
was another observation that echoed that sentiment.
Another X user claimed Bruno doesn't want to play for the manager anymore, posting: > "Bruno Fernandes doesn’t want to play for Michael Carrick anymore, because I don’t even understand what’s happening with him; that’s not the Bruno I know."
> "No matter how bad Manchester United were, Bruno Fernandes always fought for the badge. > > "Now, he looks defeated because Michael Carrick has lost the dressing room and lacks the coaching and man-management skills to turn things around."
At 32 years old, it's unlikely Fernandes will be around for much longer, considering he's the highest-earner at the club. One fan even suggested it should be his last season if he doesn't begin to look more interested.
> "Bruno, please hand in your transfer request if you’re no longer interested in playing for this club. Don’t even p me off,"
they posted on X.
Carrick's decision to play Fernandes in an unfamiliar role proved to be the wrong call. The Portugal international had 54 touches, which is very low by his standards.
With those 54 touches, he lost the ball 15 times and completed 37 of his 46 attempted passes. It sums up how much he struggled to get involved. Bruno completed zero out of four crosses and won one out of four duels.
