The Sardinians start brighter and threaten Törnqvist through Nzola and Mendy, but it is Monza who break the deadlock in the 39th minute: Dany Mota plays a perfect through ball to Kouadio , who scores his first Serie A goal with a crisp right-footed strike through Caprile's legs.

Jurić's side run riot after the break: just two minutes into the second half, Varela fires a perfect shot across goal , arguably the finest finish of the evening, before setting up Robinson to make it 3-0. Late on, Varela himself adds the fourth, turning home the rebound after Robinson hits the post to complete a superb brace.

It is Gustavo Varela who steals the headlines: two goals, an assist and another performance that confirms the Portuguese forward as one of this Serie A season's most pleasant surprises and, without doubt, Monza's difference-maker in the opening stages of the campaign.

Monza show intensity, quality and, above all, a fierce mentality, continuing to attack even with the result beyond doubt as they secure their second league win. It is a heavy setback, however, for Pisacane's Cagliari , with the coach forced to watch from the stands through suspension: the Rossoblù nevertheless remain on 13 points, still ahead of the likes of Juventus, Napoli and Atalanta.
