Liverpool news: Alex Scott back-up plan emerges as worrying issue highlighted

· Mirror

Liverpool appear to already be making transfer plans to help Andoni Iraola improve his squad

Liverpool have turned their attention back to the Champions League following Saturday's hard-fought win at Brentford. Second-half goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak secured a much-needed 2-1 victory after the Reds trailed to Keane Lewis-Potter's header on 44 minutes.

The match turned on a red card for Brentford's Yehor Yarmoliuk on the stroke of half-time, while the Bees lost Vitaly Janelt to a second yellow card in second-half stoppage time. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Brentford threatened an equaliser with 10 men.

While the match produced a welcome three points, it left Andoni Iraola plenty to ponder ahead of Tuesday's home clash with Villarreal, followed by Brighton's visit on Sunday.

The Reds have maximum points from their first two games in Europe following victories over Atletico Madrid and LASK. Here's a round-up of the latest Liverpool news...

Scott back-up plan

Liverpool reportedly have a back-up if they are priced out of a move for Alex Scott, either in January or next summer.

The Reds are one of numerous clubs credited with an interest in the Bournemouth midfielder, who looks set to be an England regular for years to come. However, with the Cherries potentially looking for as much as £115m, Liverpool may be forced to look elsewhere.

According to CaughtOffside, a potential plan B option is Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, 26, who is valued at a more reasonable £75.9m. As with Scott, Chelsea are also said to be interested in the German, who signed a new Dortmund contract in January, although that is not believed to have put off Liverpool.

Nmecha is no stranger to English football, having come through the Manchester City academy and would reportedly be open to returning to the UK.

Murphy highlights issue

Danny Murphy was left concerned by an aspect of Liverpool's victory at Bournemouth.

Despite a welcome three points in west London, the former Reds midfielder feels the team is too open and easy to play through. Speaking on Match of the Day, he began: "The positives: They won the game. Isak scoring, great finish. Munoz has been a breath of fresh air. He's a young lad but he's embraced playing at Liverpool. The two young boys, [Rio] Ngumoha and [Trey] Nyoni did well."

However, as he analysed a passage of play, he added: "Liverpool are too easy to play through, they really are. They're disorganised in the press. I'm not sure whether it's a change of personnel; I'm not sure if they're going to need a bit more time. [Florian] Wirtz is playing as a 10 behind Isak. He's not in the right position, they're not ready to press.

> "I think at the moment, although Liverpool show moments when they go forward and they've won today, they are far too easy to play against and are conceding far too many chances to be competitive at the top of the table."
