Manchester United and Michael Carrick were unable to get the win they needed in the 1-1 draw

Manchester United's winless run in the Premier League continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

Man United are without a top flight win since beating Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford on August 30th, and their winless run extended to five matches following the stalemate in Yorkshire.

The Red Devils held the advantage after a poor first half thanks to Bryan Mbeumo's goal, but they were pegged back six minutes into the second half when Dominic Calvert-Lewin showed more strength than anyone else to score the equaliser.

The draw keeps the pressure on Michael Carrick with United winning just one out of seven Premier League games this term, which is a far cry from the form they were showing under the 45-year-old when he was in interim charge last season.

Carrick will now be hoping to pick up a positive result in the Champions League in Como on Wednesday night, before they host Bournemouth at Old Trafford next Sunday.

One big positive from the game was that, aside from the goal, the visitors looked stronger defensively than they have done in other games this season, with Diogo Dalot particularly impressive.

Some United fans may have been calling for a rotational change involving Youri Tielemans for this game prior to the team news being announced, given the Belgian has started all of their matches this term.

However, Kobbie Mainoo's absence through injury and Carrick choosing to play three central midfielders meant that couldn't be the case, as he started all three of Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Tielemans together for the second time this week.

Tielemans largely flattered to deceive in the Spanish capital, but it was a different story at Elland Road.

While the 29-year-old began to tire towards the end of the match and was eventually replaced in the 84th minute, everyone watching the game could see this was the Belgian's best in a United shirt so far.

Carrick has sacrificed Bruno Fernandes and put him out wide twice this week, but Tielemans is already delivering in a more advanced central midfield role, especially with the comfort of having the legs of Santos and Baleba behind him.

When Mainoo is back to fitness, Carrick has a big decision to make over his strongest midfield line-up, and where Fernandes fits in to the XI given he is nowhere near the levels he was at last season.
