Phil Foden Called Out For ‘Embarrassing’ Actions After Man City vs Ipswich

· GiveMeSport

Phil Foden returned for Manchester City as they beat Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

After missing matches against Norwich City , Sunderland and Liverpool following his red card at Old Trafford, Foden returned to the starting XI on Saturday afternoon as City hosted newly-promoted Ipswich in the Premier League .

The 26-year-old was back with a bang as he opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with Erling Haaland also scoring a brace as Enzo Maresca’s men claimed a 3-2 victory. Daizen Maeda and Zian Flemming were the scorers for Ipswich.

As a result, City remain top of the Premier League table, having won all seven of their opening fixtures; they sit six points ahead of defending champions Arsenal , who will take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

In the aftermath of the game at the Etihad Stadium, Foden was seen arriving for his post-match interview with an inflatable banana, something the City fans have been bringing to matches recently.

The inflatable banana is a show of support that has been rooted in the tradition of City, dating back to the 1980s, when City fan Frank Newton is said to have taken a five-foot inflatable banana to Maine Road.

At the time, City faced Plymouth Argyle, and Newton brought the inflatable banana in order to try and lift the mood during what was a tough period.

Manchester City are adamant that they are innocent despite being found guilty of breaking Premier League financial rules.

However, fans were less than impressed with Foden, especially with the ongoing court case surrounding the club’s financial breaches.

> One fan said: “Just like most City fans, he probably doesn’t even know what it’s about.” Another tweeted: “Just a strange, bizarre mindset from everyone at City.”

> A third fan added: “I don’t think the Man City team and fans actually understand the situation they are in. They’re just treating it as a joke.”

> Someone else wrote: “He can take that to the non-league soon.” A fifth commented: “Beyond cringe, not to mention tone deaf.”

> Another fan said: “Just embarrassing.”

> Meanwhile, TV presenter and Arsenal fan, Piers Morgan, stated: “City’s players and fans seem to find the fact their club’s been found guilty of the worst cheating in football history a real lark. Very odd mindset.”

City fans have been bringing the inflatable bananas into the ground since it was confirmed that the club had been found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules and regulations .

As a show of support, City fans sent a clear message to the club that they remain firmly behind them despite the ongoing court case. City have since lodged an appeal, with the outcome yet to be finalised.
