Philipp Tietz’s first-half strike - his fifth Bundesliga goal in six games - extended Mainz’s winning start away from home to inflict defeat on Schalke, who are yet to score at the Veltins-Arena this season.

Schalke had gone two home games this season without scoring, both of them goalless draws against Bayern Munich and Elversberg.
Mainz, meanwhile, had won both of their away fixtures so far this term, scoring nine goals in the process and extending an unbeaten run on the road to eight Bundesliga matches.
