Frank Lampard Let Down By Coventry In Summer Transfer Window
· GiveMeSport
Coventry are struggling under Frank Lampard with no wins and poor signings.
Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has been let down by the club over the last few months, leading to them sitting bottom of the Premier League table.
The Sky Blues are still searching for their first goal of the season, never mind a win, following on from lifting the Championship title last term.
Their latest defeat came at the hands of Brighton, as they suffered a heavy 5-0 loss on their own turf.
At 2-0 down, Taiwo Awoniyi was sent off for striking an opponent in the face when battling for the ball in the air, and it all went downhill from there.
That made it four defeats from four games for the Midlands club, with the threat of relegation becoming more serious as the weeks go on.
Looking at Coventry's squad following on from the summer transfer window, it was always going to be a difficult task for Lampard, and that's been proven in the opening four games of the campaign.
In reality, Lampard was let down in the summer transfer window by Coventry.
Looking at their incomings, it's a poor mix of players who are going to struggle to drag Coventry away from the relegation battle.
The lack of Premier League experience in their signings is worrying, while there is a number of young players who are bound to need to take time to settle in.
The signings of Frank Onyeka and Carl Rushworth haven't improved the side due to both being there last season.
If you look at some of the signings made by the other two promoted clubs, it looks a lot different. Lampard will know he has to do better in terms of working with what he's got, but the recruitment team have let him down.
Both Hull City and Ipswich Town sit in the top half of the Premier League despite also just being promoted like Coventry.
Ipswich signed experienced players all over the pitch, including those who have played plenty of Premier League minutes, such as Sasa Lukic, Issa Diop, and Florentino. They added exciting talents like Julio Enciso, Emerson, and Abdul Fatawu in there too, but it was the ideal mix.
Hull City took more risks with their recruitment, also targeting younger talents, but Sergej Jakirovic has shown that he's capable of overachieving with what he's got.
Lampard needs a specific set of players to suit his style of play, and the board have simply let him down.
